In 1924, prior to the Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company being renamed the International Business Machines Corporation, Thomas J. Watson, Sr. called together all employees who served with CTR for 25 years or more and formed the Quarter Century Club.

The purpose of the Club was to promote fellowship among members of this select group. The Quarter Century Club held its first meeting in Atlantic City, New Jersey, before IBM was created.

In September, 1957, the Rochester Chapter of the Quarter Century Club was organized with a charter membership of twelve. On February 13, 1958, the first annual meeting was held for a membership of seventeen. Every year since has seen a growth in the number of members, topping 3,000 in 1993, and almost 4,000 for the year 2001.

The purpose of the Club has remained constant through the years. It is to recognize employees with 25 (or more) years of service with IBM, and promote contact among long-term IBM employees, both active and retired.
